In NetEpic Squats have tanks, the so-called Ironhammers. Armed with a turreted cannon and Heavy Bolters, they are a most welcome addition to an army that otherwise consists of mostly infantry and superheavy vehicles and so adds a bit of variety. To represent my Ironhammer tanks I chose the Hera Heavy Battle Tank from the Onslaught miniatures range, sold by Vanguard Miniatures. The model is probably designed to be a Sisters of Battle tank, but I think it fits the Squat army well with its low and heavy profile. Also, the model comes with a twin-barreled cannon and sponsons that fits the description from the codex well.

Assembly and painting
The models are high quality metal casts with very few mold lines. They do consist of several small parts and were a bit tricky to assemble but that’s life at 6 millimeters. The tanks have been airbrushed red, I can’t remember which Vallejo red exactly, I usually write these things down. Highlights were added by spraying brighter tones of red from above. A final dry rush with a red/white mix brings out the edges. Tracks and guns are Vallejo Black Metallic, tracks washed with Vallejo Rust Model Wash.
Basing is Martian Ironearth by GW drybrushed slightly with a Vallejo Sand and GW Rysa Rust.
I went a bit overboard on the details but decided they needed some flashy sh..t and added a celtic pattern. Using a Kolinsky Miniatures brush size 1 I first painted the pattern in white and then added the yellow color afterwards. I did it in white first because it is an easy color to do small freehand lines with as it has a high contrast compared to the red so it is easy to spot any mistakes and really helps to bring out the yellow color added next. White also paints over easily so those pesky mistakes can be addressed fairly easy. Tones of red and white were added to the pattern to give it a flame-like look.
Thats it, Ironhammers done. Ready to take to the battlefield.
