An Epic beginning

I have been lured into playing Epic by friends. Sorting through boxes of old stuff I recovered a sizeable Squat force. It’s fun to see some of my earliest painted stuff, it’s a tad rough but I guess brushes were just larger back then πŸ˜‰

Squat Leviathan

Here is an old Leviathan painted in 90’s bright colours. I’ll be going for a similar colour scheme this time.

For Epic (that’s 6mm scale) models have to be painted in very bright colors with excessive highlights, otherwise the models will just be indistinguishable dark blobs on the table. For my Squats I chose to carry on with the same three base colors that I started using when I first painted these minis years ago, namely green, red and blue, with yellow as a vibrant thertiary color.

Army composition

We play NetEpic a revised edition of the second edition of Epic, released by Games Workshop back in 1991. An army is built by selecting comapny cards and detachments, which I think is an elegant, fast and simple way of building armies. Rules for NetEpic are available at www.netepic.org

Organization cards for Squats from the old 2nd edition of epic. Players choose a company card and the buy detachments (the small cards) for it. It’s quite brilliant if you ask me, as armylists can be put together in no time.

For Squats their speciality are super large vehicles, such as the Leviathan and Colossus, very large artillery pieces and hard hitting bearded bikers.

So far…

This is what I’ve painted up so far: Bikes and trikes, a Berserker detachment (assault infantry), an overlord Airship and a Goliath Mega Cannon
