Archers new and old alike

Along with the greatswords plastic kit, the plastic archers are definitely one of the better set of models done by Games Workshop. Most notably the variation and number of different heads and accessory bits is awesome, and therefore a favorite among many gamers for kitbashing Mordheim warbands.

Models used

The metal archers are from around early 4’th edition (1992) and not that easy to come by on the second hand market, but over a period of time and willingness to spend money, I secured around a dozen or so.

The most striking part is that the new plastic models are essentially just a copy of the old Imperial Archers, and it’s pretty hard to actually distinguish between the two types when mixed in the same unit. The telling difference is that the old metal ones have smaller bows and thicker bows, whereas the new plastics are quite thin.

Painting

I chose an all red scheme for the archers, with white feathers as a unit mark keeping them in the same scheme as my swordsmen. Feathers are simply given a heavy wash with Vallejo Light Grey wash. The hats are black, highlighted with grey and white.

Can you tell which ones are metal?
